Part 2 from our backpacker guest blogger.
Wow, what a first day in London! We woke up and had a lovely (free) breakfast in the hostel, which was a great way to start the day. Plus, that’s one less meal we have to pay for! We all had a great night’s sleep. We are staying in a 3-bed room with our own en-suite, which is heaven. We left all our personal belongings in the safe that was in the room so we were happy to go off and start our first day touring London. We decided to use the tube as the station is so close by and we got off at London Bridge. This was then a short walk to the Shard, which is London’s highest viewing platform and it had some spectacular views. From here we went over to HMS Belfast, which was really interesting. Following this, we walked up to City Hall, which is a great looking building and grabbed a bite to eat with fantastic views of Tower Bridge from Potter Field Park. From here we headed on to Tower Bridge and walked across at a very slow rate, taking hundreds of pictures. Tower Bridge then lead us into the Tower of London, a building set in beautiful surroundings that I recommend everyone see. Evening had started to creep in, so we headed back down the River Thames towards London Bridge, where we got some more brilliant photos of Tower Bridge and London generally. Tired, we headed back to Safestay, washed up and went to have dinner in the restaurant. We ended our first, tiring day in the garden of the hostel chatting to all sorts of people, from all over the world – perfect!
